Feeling a Bit “Meh”?
Here’s What Your Body Might Be Telling You
Have you been feeling a bit flat lately? Not low exactly, but not joyful either.
Just… grey around the edges?
You’re not alone. Many describe this phase as feeling like they’re stuck in neutral.
No highs. No lows. Just a quiet
“Is this all there is?”
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this kind of emotional flatness is often linked to Liver Qi stagnation (when your energy isn’t flowing properly) or Spleen Qi deficiency (when your body’s ‘fuel’ is running a bit low). Over time, this can leave you feeling tired, uninspired, and a little lost.
The good news? There are gentle, nourishing ways to help shift this feeling.
1. Move Your Energy
When we feel stuck emotionally, it’s usually because our Qi (energy) is stuck too. Try:
-
Going for a short walk in nature, even just 10 minutes if local St James Lake is lovely
-
Moving your body in a way that feels good: stretching, dancing, or just swaying to music in your kitchen
-
Doing something new – a new route home, a new recipe, a different scent or essential oil
Little changes create movement. And movement invites energy.
2. Nourish Your Body
When we feel emotionally low, our body often needs warmth, grounding, and rest.
In TCM, we recommend:
-
Eating warm, cooked foods – soups, stews, porridge, roasted vegetables
-
Avoiding cold/raw foods that can slow your digestion and lower your energy
-
Keeping your tummy and feet warm, especially in the evening – a hot water bottle or warm bath works wonders
3. Tend to Your Spirit
When your spark feels dim, sometimes what you need isn’t to try harder—but to slow down and listen.
You might try:
-
Journaling or reflecting on: “What used to make me feel most like me?”
-
Setting boundaries around your energy – limiting screen time or stepping back from draining interactions
-
Ending your day with something simple and meaningful: a calming tea, a gentle breath practice, a few minutes of stillness
You’re Not Stuck – Just Paused
Sometimes what we call “stuck” is actually our body calling for stillness.
A pause before a new season.
A quiet invitation to rest, reset, and gently reconnect with who you are now.
If this resonates, acupuncture can help move that stuck energy, calm the mind, and restore your spark.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
